Words From The Dean

Facing the vast Pacific Ocean to the east and leaning against the towering Qilai Mountain to the west, National Dong Hwa University is fittingly located on the plain where the rift valley meets the coast. Surrounded by diverse settlements and lifestyles, with the Mugua River and the Hualien River flowing nearby, and the company of Liyu Mountain and Liyu Lake, the atmosphere here is relaxing and beautiful. The campus with many trees, cicadas and grasshoppers playing different sounds according to the change of seasons keeps away the man-made hustle and bustle of the city so that faculty members and students can enjoy their knowledge-acquiring journey.Being nourished by mountains and oceans, the faculty members and students are not afraid of heavy rains and strong winds; instead, they can easily take care of both their personal life and academic studies due to the advanced equipment and facilities as well as the convenient and comfortable living environment even though the University is actually located in the rural region.

The College of Indigenous Studies stands proudly by the East Lake offering students courses with multi-ethnic characteristics and cultures, guidance from faculty members with different expertise, and diverse but sophisticated knowledge and skills. The connection with the tribes, the sharing of knowledge, languages and cultures, and the diversity of knowledge and skills are the driving force of our competitiveness.
