Q1 On-Campus Transportation

  • NDHU faculty, staff, and students may apply for a pass for their motorcycle and/or bicycle and may ride on campus without changing the pass.
  • Off-campus visitors entering and exiting the campus by car must acquire a valid pass at one of the University gates. Parking lots and spaces are available on campus, please park according to the rules. No off-campus motorcycles are allowed on campus. Please park in the parking lot by the gates and enter the campus on foot.

Q2 Off-Campus Transportation

A2:The University is located in Zhixue Village of Shoufeng Township, Hualien County. National Dong Hwa University is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien Country, bounded by Hualien River on the east, Lao Creek on the south, and Mugua River on the north, with the Coastal Mountain Range on the southeast and the Central Mountain Range on the west, about 15km south of the world famous scenery of Taroko Gorge National Park. The campus is located along Highway No.9 (Milepost 229 for Zhixue Gate, Milepost 231 for Main Gate). It is 16km from Zhixue Gate to the rear of Hualien Railway Station, 17.2km to the front of the station, 3.5km to Shoufeng Railway Station, 1km to Zhixue Railway Station, and 21km to Hualien Airport.

By Bus
You can take the Hualien Hi Bus at the front of the Hualien Train Station and get off at the Zhixue bus stop. It takes about 30 minutes, and there are buses every 15 ~ 30 minutes. All bus lines going south to Taitung, Fuli, Ruisui or Guangfu pass the Zhixue stop.
Once you get off at the Zhixue stop, walk along Zhongzheng Road for about 10 minutes and you will reach the Zhixue Gate of the University. In addition, it takes about 15 minutes to walk from Zhixue Gate to the classroom or dormitory. (Give yourself enough time, the campus is huge).
You can also take the Taroko Bus No. 301 (from Hualien Training Station to National Dong Hwa University), which runs every hour. This bus passes right through the campus. Hualien Hi Bus No.1121 or No.1122 (get off at Zhixue stop); Taroko Bus No.301 (to NDHU)

By Taxi
It costs about NT$350 ~ NT$450 for taxis waiting at the Train Station or outside and takes about 30 minutes to reach the University. You can get a discount, i.e. no booking fee and no trunk opening fee, with a valid NDHU faculty member ID card, staff ID card or student ID card. By Car
Drive along Highway No. 9 to Milepost 229, turn left on Zhongzheng Road (next to Zhixue Police Station) and go straight till you see the Zhixue Gate of the University. You can also turn left at Milepost 231 (the Taisugar gas station), turn left onto Daxue Road, and walk straight for about 2km to the University’s main gate. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

By Motorcycle
It takes about 30 minutes from downtown Hualien to the University.

From Other Counties and Cities to Hualien

By Train
The Tze-Chiang Limited Express takes about 2.5 hours from Taipei to Hualien via the North-Link Line. There are also many shifts of Tze-Chiang Limited Express and Chu-Kuang Express arriving at "Zhixue Station" every day. There are about 20 trains leaving Taipei for Hualien every day. You can also get to Hualien from cities and counties in southern Taiwan via the South-Link Line. No matter where you depart - north or south - you can take the Hualien Hi Bus or the Taroko Bus from the Hualien Train Station to the Zhixue stop or the National Dong Hwa University stop (see the websites of Taiwan Railway Administration, Hualien Hi Bus and Taroko Bus or the links provided by the University for transportation information).

By Bus
Hualien Hi Bus (Hualien-based company) and Diing Dong Bus (Taitung-based company) run daily between Hualien and Taitung (Hualien Hi Bus route).

By Car
You can come to Hualien via the Suhua Highway, the Central Cross-Island Highway, the Huatung Highway, or the Huatung Coastal Highway. It takes about 4 hours from Taipei, 8 hours from Taichung via the Central Cross-Island Highway, 7 hours from Kaohsiung, and 2.5 hours from Taitung (Highway Information).
